A while ago, I was lucky enough to interview TeachMama and discuss the world of blogging with her.
What made you start up teachmama.com?
I started teachmama.com for a selfish reason–I was tired of sounding like a broken record with my friends who kept calling and asking for suggestions as to what they could do–or should do–with their children in order to set them up for early literacy and math success. I wanted to share the knowledge I had from my training as a Reading Specialist and the simple activities I was doing with my own children with my friends who also had young children. I knew that to set the pathway for a lifestyle of learning, my friends had to begin early, and for just a few minutes a day, they could give their children a head start by using the materials that they already had around the house. What are your passions?
I really love reading and writing, I am totally and completely in awe of the process of literacy acquisition. It’s been a total blast to watch my 6 year olds world open up for her as she’s beginning to read.Which blogs do you find helpful?
I love Pink and Green Mama who is an art teacher and who creates the most amazing, gorgeous, fantastic activities with her two girls. I also usually check out ABC and 123 because Katie and Katie have assembled an incredible learning cooperative with tons of bloggers and educators. And I have recently discovered the Frugal Family Fun Blog for some really affordable, easy craft ideas. What would you say parents/teachers need more of from the internet?
I think they need easy, unintimidating, and accessible games and activities that they can use that very day with their kids. Nothing that requires tons of supplies or tools or a Master’s Degree in rocket science, they need to be able to quickly read directions for something, be able to click a button to download a sheet it, then use what they have in their homes at the time to implement it.What is your favourite post you have written?
I have to say that I don’t have a favorite post, but I have favorite activities that we did that I’ve shared. Owen still asks to play “Owen tic tac toe“. And I still use the shopping lists when I have to take all of the kids together to the store. And our backyard number hunt brings back sunny springtime memories.Thank you so much, Carly.

Hi Amy
Great responses. I especially love the ‘everyday ideas’ — I agree!
