As of today, I had never heard of these books, But have totally fallen in love.
Thanks to my unit ENGL286, which is on Children’s Literature, I need to purchase some children’s texts. Here are two picture books I recommend for 4 year olds and up. [Not 100% sure some children under 4 will understand the themes though you know your children best so you be the judge.]
Beware of the Storybook Wolves by Lauren Child.
My copy that I purchased has it read by Hugh Laurie. Bonus! He has such character and wit while reading. I just hope to read it like him!
The book is based around a boy who is read ‘Little Red Ridding Hood’ and one night the characters come out of the book, the wolves, and want to eat him. He then, with the help of other storybook characters, foil the wolves.
I loved reading it. I cannot wait to read it to children.
Available from Angus and Robertson.
The Wolf’s Story by Toby Forward and Izhar Cohen.
Another book based around ‘Little Red Ridding Hood’, though more like Hoodwinked but only from one point of view. The wolf’s.
The wolf had me laughing and I read it to my boyfriend and he cracks up when I read as I use such enthusiasm. But that is the best way to read to children as you engage them for longer.
Around four years children begin to really love and understand the happily-ever-after and for me this would be a great follow up book and can pose that question with the children “Do you believe the wolf?” etc.
Available at Amazon.com.
These books aren’t for everyone. It is your responsibility to know if your child/ren are up to reading these texts.
Enjoy.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Lauren Child…it's probably a bit old for my girls yet but I might try to get my hands on a copy and squirrel it away until they're older.
Ta Carly!
